We visited 7 remote villages to the south of India during March. The people are poor and needy – literary poor and they need a Saviour to take them out of their predicament and bondage. These people who served and worshipped idols needed God to save them. In the villages there are no churches and here the “harvest is very ripe and the labourers are very few”.
We know for a fact that there is a God who answers prayer – God answered their prayers. We received some funds from our church and also from someone who preferred to stay anonymous. With these funds we managed to employ four fulltime workers (three men and a woman) for a full year, for a minimum wage. This wage, truly speaking, is below the bread line, but they took up the challenge to do the Master’s work. I told them that after one year I don’t know what the future will hold, but to be assured that we know Who holds the future. During our mission work lives were touched, blessed, healed and set free from bondage – our God was really present in these remote villages. We also bought Bibles for the new converts.
During April we visited Beijing in China – it was very different to India. Here we could not preach or talk to anyone about Jesus. Esther and I spoke to many Chinese during our previous visits and gave out Bibles, tracts and other literature. This year we took were more cautious because our phones were tapped and our laptop monitored.
As expats, we were confined to a particular venue for church services. This church was monitored by secret police. They told us that if we do get caught the church will lose their license. With this in mind we did not give up but bought bibles and gave it to a teacher who does extra mural classes with Chinese students. While she teaches them, she hands out Bibles, which is also risky.
We also distributed bibles to the taxi drivers when we were travelling by taxi. They were reluctant but accepted them.
Our prayer is that if one soul is saved, the angels in heaven rejoice.
